Geometry Pictures
Today, the kiddos were asked to create their own pictures. They had to make sure to have at least one:
pentagon, hexagon, triangle, parallelogram, trapezoid
The above picture is mine.
Here's the link where I got my dot graph paper. They have a whole bunch of different sizes which is awesome.

If a circle is 360 degrees....
Today we are exploring degrees.
The first concept to understand is that a circle is 360 degrees.
Then if we divide up a circle into 4 parts, we get 4 right angles (90 degrees).
If we divide it into 2 parts, we get two straight lines. (180 degrees)
Here's a game to measure angles!
I also set up a station for them to make their own symmetrical pictures using a ruler as a line of symmetry.

Quadrilaterals and triangles
Today we classified quadrilaterals bases on parallel lines, equal sides, and right angles.
We also talked about the different types of triangles and how to classify them based on their angles.

Geometry
New Geometry Unit!
TEKS:
TEKS:
4.6 Geometry and measurement. The student applies mathematical process standards to analyze geometric attributesin order to develop generalizations about their properties. The student is expected to:
4.6A identify points, lines, line segments, rays, angles, and perpendicular and parallel lines; S
4.6B identify and draw one or more lines of symmetry, if they exist, for a two-dimensional figure; S
4.6C apply knowledge of right angles to identify acute, right, and obtuse triangles; S
4.6D classify two-dimensional figures based on the presence or absence of parallel or perpendicular lines or the presence or absence of angles of a specified size. R
